We recommend the use of our Fuel Treatment FT-10™. Muscle FT-10™ contains just the right amount of Metal Treatment MT-10® in its formulation to deliver maximum friction reduction in the cylinder area. Add 2 oz. of Fuel Treatment FT-10™ to 5 gallons of fuel. Continue using the oil mixture that is recommended by the equipment manufacturer. For more information, see our technical article, 2-Cycle Engines & Fuel Treatment FT-10™.

Boundary film lubrication is lubrication that depends on a thin protective film formed on the metal surface when the oil film alone is not thick enough to fully separate moving parts.
The more common technical term is boundary lubrication. This is an operating condition where the lubricant film becomes very thin, and microscopic metal contact can occur at surface high points, called asperities.
A boundary film is the protective surface layer formed by additive chemistry under those conditions to form a protective boundary film that reduces direct metal-to-metal contact, friction, heat, and wear. Lubricity refers to the slipperiness of a lubricant and its ability to lubricate. In other words, the more slippery an oil, the better its ability to lubricate.

A cold start is the first time you start your engine after it has remained idle for a period of time. The metal parts become ‘dry’ as the oil drains to the bottom of the engine. Muscle Metal Treatment MT-10® provides additional protection during cold starts, thus the term ‘cold start protection.’ Once the metal surfaces have been treated with MT-10®, the parts are protected until the oil warms up and completely circulates through the system.
