Metal Treatment MT-10®

Anti-Friction Lubricant Additive for Engines, Transmissions, Gears, Bearings, Pumps, and Industrial Equipment

Metal Treatment MT-10® is an anti-friction additive designed to be used with the existing lubricant.  It helps protect moving metal parts in engines, transmissions, gear systems, bearings, pumps, motors, and other lubricated equipment.  MT-10® is not a stand-alone lubricant and should not be used by itself.

Metal Treatment MT-10® treats the metal, not the oil. It’s formulated to improve the way metal surfaces interact under load, reducing friction-related heat and wear, operating temperatures, oil consumption, downtime, and energy loss across automotive, commercial, fleet, industrial, agricultural, and maintenance applications.

What Is Metal Treatment MT-10®?

MT-10® is a high-performance anti-friction additive engineered to protect lubricated metal surfaces in engines, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, electric motors, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical equipment.

Unlike ordinary additives that primarily change the characteristics of the oil, MT-10® conditions and protects the metal surfaces inside lubricated systems. This helps reduce metal-to-metal friction, heat, and wear during operation.

Metal Treatment MT-10® can be used in many types of equipment where friction, heat, wear, downtime, and energy loss are concerns.

How Metal Treatment MT-10® Works

Metal surfaces may look smooth, but under magnification they contain microscopic peaks, valleys, and surface irregularities. When moving parts operate under load, these surfaces create friction, heat, and wear.

MT-10® is designed to treat and protect those metal surfaces. It helps create a protective boundary film that reduces friction between moving components, especially in high-load and high-temperature operating conditions.

For technical users who want a deeper explanation, MT-10® provides five surface-level mechanisms of improvement:

  • Controlled tribochemical boundary-film formation at loaded asperity contacts

  • Oxirane-based acid scavenging and corrosion inhibition

  • Pressure- and temperature-activated surface chemistry in mixed and boundary lubrication

  • Reduced asperity interaction and improved surface smoothness and load sharing

  • Near-surface conditioning of the contact zone under severe service

  • Construction equipment

  • Other lubricated mechanical systems

Treats the Metal – Not the Oil

Metal Treatment MT-10® works differently from other additives that only modify the fluid.

MT-10® interacts with the metal surfaces inside the lubricated system.  This metal-treatment action reduces friction and wear at the contact point of those surfaces.  This is especially beneficial where system components are exposed to extreme pressure, heat, load, and repetitive mechanical movement.

Directions for Use by Application

Engines:

Add 8 oz. of MT-10® to 4 to 6 quarts of oil in the crankcase every oil change.  For larger engine oil reserves, add 1.5 oz. of MT-10® per each quart of oil.

Automatic transmissions:

Add 8 oz. of MT-10® to transmission through the fluid tube. For larger, heavy-duty transmissions, add 1.5 oz. to each quart of fluid.

Standard transmissions:

Add 1 oz. of MT-10® per every pound of gear lube.

Power steering / rack assembly units:

Add 1.5 oz. of MT-10® per every quart of fluid.

Differentials:

Remove 4 oz. of lube and replace with 4 oz. MT-10® for standard-size vehicles (do not over fill).  For larger differentials, i.e. trucks, add 1 oz. per pound of gear lube.  NOTE:  Limited slip additive is still needed with the use of MT-10®.

Gear boxes:

Add 2 oz. of MT-10® per quart of oil.

Hydraulics:

Add 1 oz. of MT-10® per quart of fluid.

For advanced, fine-filtered (microns) hydraulic systems where filter sensitivity is a concern, consider Muscle Hydraulic Treatment HT-10™.  Read more:  When to Use Metal Treatment MT-10® vs. Hydraulic Treatment HT-10™.

Bearings lubricated by oil bath systems:

Add 1 to 3% by volume.  For multiple sumps, add MT-10® to each sump.

Important Application Notes

Metal Treatment MT-10® is not a stand-alone lubricant. It must be added to the existing lubricant and is not intended to replace the oil, fluid, or grease recommended by the equipment manufacturer.

MT-10® is not recommended for use in CVT transmissions or CVT fluids. Use caution in systems where the engine, transmission, and clutch share the same oil reservoir, such as some motorcycles and wet-clutch systems. If the clutch friction plates contain metal in the surface coating, MT-10® may cause slippage because it is designed to reduced friction.
