How Lithium EP Plus LP-10™ Works

Lithium Grease for General-Purpose Lubrication

LP-10 uses a conventional lithium soap thickener to retain lubricating oil and additives within the grease. This structure allows the grease to remain in place while releasing lubricant to moving surfaces during operation.

Its NLGI Grade 2 consistency makes it suitable for many common grease-lubricated bearings, joints, and mechanisms where equipment manufacturers specify a compatible multipurpose lithium grease.

Extreme-Pressure and Antiwear Protection

Under heavy loads, slow speeds, or intermittent movement, the lubricating film separating contacting metal surfaces can become thin. These conditions increase the potential for direct contact between surface irregularities (or asperities), resulting in friction and wear.

LP-10 contains extreme-pressure and antiwear additives designed to protect lubricated surfaces under these conditions.

Fortified with Metal Treatment MT-10®

LP-10 incorporates Muscle Metal Treatment MT-10®, a lubricant additive designed to promote protective boundary film formation to reduce metal-to-metal contact.

Boundary-film lubrication is especially important when the lubricating film is insufficient to fully separate moving surfaces. By helping protect these contact areas, MT-10® contributes to LP-10's anti-wear and extreme-pressure performance.

Recommended Uses

Lithium EP Plus LP-10™ is intended for equipment requiring an NLGI Grade 2 multipurpose lithium grease with extreme-pressure and antiwear protection.

Industrial and Commercial Equipment

Typical applications:

  • Grease-lubricated bearings

  • Conveyor systems

  • Pumps with grease-lubricated bearings

  • General industrial machinery

  • Pivot points, pins, and bushings

  • Other machinery requiring an extreme-pressure lithium grease

Automotive and Trailer Applications

Typical applications, where equipment manufacturer specifications permit a multipurpose lithium grease, include:

  • Steering and suspension grease fittings

  • Pivot points and linkages

  • Fifth-wheel coupling plates on commercial trucks and tractor-trailers

  • Trailer hinges, pins, and other grease-lubricated mechanisms

LP-10 is intended for applications where a multipurpose NLGI Grade 2 lithium grease is specified. It does not meet NLGI GC-LB performance criteria.

Always follow the equipment manufacturer's grease specifications.

Apply Lithium EP Plus LP-10™ according to the equipment manufacturer's lubrication instructions, including grease amount, application method, and recommended relubrication intervals.

Grease Selection and Compatibility

When selecting a grease, consider operating temperature, load, speed, environmental exposure, and equipment manufacturer requirements.

LP-10 is a multipurpose lithium grease intended for applications within its specified operating range. Applications involving higher temperatures or more demanding operating conditions may require a different grease formulation.

Changing Greases?

Not all greases are compatible, even when they have the same NLGI grade. Before replacing an existing grease with LP-10, verify thickener and formulation compatibility and follow appropriate changeover procedures.
